The Client
After transitioning to a virtual-first workplace, Thumbtack sought new ways to keep employees connected while strengthening company culture. To bring that vision to life, the company partnered with Sequence to produce a series of in-person experiences, including its first-ever company-wide off-site, Camp Thumbtack.
Sequence transformed Thumbtack’s vision into Camp Thumbtack, an award-winning multi-day employee experience featuring immersive programming, experiential design, and end-to-end event production that strengthened culture across its remote-first workforce.
The Challenge
As a virtual-first company, Thumbtack wanted to create meaningful opportunities for employees to connect beyond their screens while reinforcing the culture that had fueled its growth. The goal was to design an inaugural company-wide experience that would strengthen relationships, celebrate employees, and rally the organization around a shared mission.
With no previous event framework to build from, Sequence worked alongside evolving client teams and executive stakeholders to define the event strategy, align priorities across departments, and create an experience that balanced business objectives with meaningful employee engagement.
The Solution
Sequence partnered with Thumbtack over a 10-month planning process, beginning with an in-depth Discovery phase to understand the company’s culture, business goals, and vision for its first large-scale employee gathering. Working closely with functional leaders and C-suite executives, the team developed the Camp Thumbtack concept, establishing the event strategy, creative direction, budget, and attendee experience from the ground up.
Over three days in Denver, Camp Thumbtack brought together more than 800 employees for a carefully curated experience that balanced structured programming with attendee choice. Leadership keynotes, panel discussions, employee recognition, wellness activities, workshops, and team-building experiences were complemented by camp-inspired entertainment, themed environments, after parties, custom food and beverage experiences, and more than 50 interactive activities designed to encourage connection.
Beyond the attendee experience, Sequence managed every aspect of event execution, including custom scenic design, AV production, transportation logistics, room block management, venue planning, staffing, and evolving floor plans across multiple indoor and outdoor spaces. From creative strategy and production through onsite execution, every detail was designed to deliver a seamless experience while bringing Thumbtack’s culture to life.
